Potty Training our little girl.

Our daughter went to the bathroom in her potty for the first time today. She is really excited about it. I've gotten a couple of people asking what our secret is for potty training.

After thinking about this for a while, I'm not really sure about a "secret", so I'll just ramble on about the experience, and hope it helps.

Our methods of teaching her just about anything are really bolstered by her desire to learn. It's really encouraging for us. When Mila was started to mimic everything we said, we started to add hand gestures, sign language, or a demonstration to things we knew she was picking up verbally, so that she could associate the words with actual things. This works really well.

My kid is really smart. Like, it's a little creepy sometimes, because I'm not used to them (little kids) advancing so quickly. She seems to understand English really well, and If we ask her to do something, she just does it. I know, you're rolling your eyes, and thinking, "She's only 15 months old! You must be delusional!", but I'm not exaggerating. If she takes the cushion off of my desk chair, and I say to her, "Please go put the pillow back on my chair", she will run over and pick up the pillow, and put it back on my chair. If I hand her a bottle of juice, and she says "no", I'll tell her, "Ok, then go set it on the desk", she'll go set it on the desk. It's amazing.

Sure, she doesn't always do what we ask her to do. She's definitely a kid, and has her cranky moments, and she LOVES to push my buttons and test my limits. I try to remain calm. Most of the time, it's just hard to keep a straight face. (Do you know how hard it is for your kid to take you serious when you're laughing? Yeah, impossible. So when she sneaks up behind me and tickles me right when I'm taking a drink from a bottle of soda, she thinks it's hilarious, and, inevitably, she makes me laugh.)

Anyways, the point is, she is able to tell us exactly what she wants, most of the time.

She tells us when she's hungry, and knows the words "breakfast", "lunch", "hungry", and "eat", along with most of her favorite foods. She tells us when she wants to go outside, when she wants us to read books with her, when she wants us to sing with her, when she want's to take a nap (sometimes), and when she want's a diaper change.

That last one is a really important step for us with the potty training. When we first noticed that she was saying "diaper" ever time she went, we would have "changing time". Instead of just plucking her away from what she was doing, we would try to make her a part of it, since, you know, she was the center of it. So, when she would tell us "Diaper", we would say, "Right on! Come lay down here so we can change you!" Most of the time, she would.

Sometimes there was fussiness because she simply wanted to tell us she had gone, but didn't want her diaper changed at that moment. It was important for us to keep the experience positive, so I would usually try to see what it was that she was doing when she started to "go". Nearly every time, I was able to get her to show me what she was doing, and then remind her that she needs a change, keeping her involved.

Around the time that she started to tell us when she needed a change, we picked up a training potty and established a difference between potty (the verb) and diaper (the noun). She took to that pretty quick.

For the last month, whenever she would say "diaper", we would show her the potty before we changed her.

For the last couple of weeks, whenever she would get the look of pause that turns into a look of relief (you know the look), we would say "potty time!" and set her on the potty. At first she seemed really confused, but seemed to understand after a couple of times.

Now she says potty BEFORE she has to go.

How long before is another thing. It's obvious to us that she knows the sensation of having to go, and is saying something every time she notices. Sometimes, though, it's a while before she actually has to go.

This morning, she said "potty!", so we took her to the potty. She sat there for a few minutes and with nothing happening, she got bored and said "done". She jumped up, and ran out into the living room, and immediately peed on the floor.

Ok, we missed that one. But it was the first time since we've moved here that she got away from us without a diaper, so I guess we were due for some pee on the floor.

The day continued, and she eventually said "potty!", again.

This time, when we took her, she went in the potty. We were so excited.

Now, I have to try to notice when she says it every time, and try not to miss it, since she can't access the potty by herself yet.

A couple of weeks of this, and we'll start weening her off of her nightime bottle.

Free Online Lotteries - A Quick Comparison

Today I'll give my opinions of several Free Online Lottery sites.

There are several that seem very popular, so I've signed up for those first.

The three I'll discuss today are:
Moneyballs
LuckySurf
cultLotto

The way these sites work is, instead of spending money on lottery entries, you look at an ad, or click through a link to enter. Each site gives you a number of entries per day, so it never takes more than a few minutes to enter daily. Then each site either has a periodic drawing to choose a winner of that particular contest, or pays out instantly if you win.

The first site is my least favorite.
Moneyballs is easy to play, but doesn't look that great, so for a time killer, it can be a bit tedious. If you're only in it for the cash, and sign up for all of them, this one should go on your list.

After you sign up, you get to start with 10 chances per day.
Pick 7 numbers, and draw. Since each time you play is a different draw, I use the same numbers each time.
If you get at least 2 numbers, you'll earn 2 more chances. You redeem those chances by clicking an ad link, and waiting ten seconds for confirmation. Then you go back to the game.

3 or more numbers pays cash on the following scale.

7 of 7 numbers wins $1,000,000 Cash
6 of 7 numbers wins $10,000 Cash
5 of 7 numbers wins $100 Cash
4 of 7 numbers wins $10 Bonus
3 of 7 numbers wins $1 Bonus

Not bad for free.

Next is LuckySurf
This one works slightly different. Instead of having a separate draw for each game, you have one draw per day.
After you sign up, you get 10 Game Grids per day.
Pick 6 numbers for each Game Grid. Since you're playing against one lotto drawing, make sure you pick different numbers for each grid.
Once a day, they have a drawing, just like your local TV lotto, with a slight twist.

This game lets you arrange the numbers. The order of the drawn numbers can affect how much you win.
I know this pay table will seem complicated, but you don't really have to worry about it.

1 to 4 Matching numbers, in any order, WINS points redeemable for prizes.
5 Matching numbers, in any order, WINS $10 on any of the first 9 Game Grids, and $20 on the 10th Game Grid
6 Matching numbers, in the wrong order, WINS $1,500 on any of the first 9 Game Grids, and $15,000 on the 10th Game Grid.
6 matching numbers, in the right order, WINS $5 Million on any of the first 9 Game Grids, and $10 Million on the 10th Game Grid.

I know, it seems complicated, but it doesn't really matter. Just pick your numbers and cross your fingers. It's a free chance to win money.

The Third site is my favorite. Best for last, and all.

cultLotto is very easy to play, and has, in my opinion, the best games with the best payout chances.

There is an instant Lotto, a Daily Lotto, AND a weekly progressive!!

After you sign up, you get 10 Chances for the Instant Lotto (per day), 3 Chances for the Daily Lotto, and 3 Weekly Progressive Lotto Entries.

First, the Instant Lotto.
Pick 7 numbers, and play them. It's easy, and fast. These are individual draws, so you can use the same "Lucky Numbers" for each play.
If you match 2 or more numbers, you click through a link to claim it. The best part, is that you don't even have to look at the sponsor page, because of the way cultLotto loads the new page, your focus will always be on cultLotto, and the sponsor will always be in the background. You wait 15 second (or so), and click the "play again" button, and you can close the sponsor without even clicking on the tab. Brilliant.
